A recently turned haiku poet in 2005, Kala Ramesh has won six prestigious awards – She is the recipient of the 1st runner-up Readers’ Choice Poet of the Year Award / the Readers’ Choice Poem of the Year Award, and her haiku were featured in the Eight Annual Valentine Awards (Volume VIII, 2006.) issue of The Heron’s Nest, an online and print haiku journal.
 
Her work consisting of haiku, tanka, senryu, haibun, renku [collaborative poetry] and one line haiku, has appeared in leading e-zines and anthologies all over the world.
 
Her haiku poem has been included in The Red Moon Anthology for 2006 in big sky (Red Moon Press). Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival – 2006 Sakura Award Haiku, placed 5th in the 4th Annual Poets’ Choice Kukai Results in the free format entry 06, placed 1st in the 5th Annual Poet’s Choice Kukai Results, 2007 and secured the 3rd prize in Mainichi Daily News in their Annual Selection 2007. In the BHS James W. Hackett International Haiku Award 2007, her haiku was nominated as commended, and her haibun won the Merit Certificate in The Muse Poetry Contest 2008. Her haiku received an honorable mention in the annual selection- 2008 of the Mainichi Daily News. Having won the Snapshot’s Calendar Contest, four of her haiku has been printed in their calendar of 2009.
